A long-time friend of my family's passed through the area recently and left several large bags of yarn for my mom and me. What do you think? Will I have enough yarn to keep me occupied for a while? :-)

I needed a rain jacket, so I got this at the thrift store. I didn't notice until I got home that it had "Ingrid's" bedazzled onto the back.
I got this new border from ACE. It has all the different character traits that the child learns throughout the year. There were two sets, so the first set I used for this bulletin board and the other set I cut up and will write the verses that go with each trait on the back. We'll use it as flashcards to review verses and the traits (especially since we won't be using 100% ACE curriculum next year). I also ordered the character stickers--I expected them to be the actual person cutout, but the circles work fine, too.
The thin fuzzy part of my headphones literally fell off because it was so worn. I thought about buying new ones, but then this genius idea came to me. Crocheted cozies for my headphones!
Two years ago, I made prayer sticks for our devotional time, and last year I blogged about it. One of the missionaries that we pray for went on furlough last year, and in December, she posted photos on facebook about a notebook she received from one of her prayer warriors. It was filled with dates from the past four years--every day the lady prayed for the missionary, she wrote down the date. The missionary shared what a huge blessing that notebook was, and I can imagine it was indeed!
So that got me to thinking...and I made missionary notebooks of our own. Last fall, there was a huge consignment sale for kids' clothes. I bought several items for EJ including these footy jommies, and when I got home, I was extremely disappointed to find that the zipper was 100% shot. There is no way that mom didn't know the zipper was busted, yet she sneaked it in anyway. I paid several dollars for it, so I wasn't about to just throw it out. I'd never sewn in a zipper before, but I figured, how hard can it really be?
First, I cut the teeth of the old zipper off. This yarn is absolutely beautiful! A cobalt blue, black, and silver twist, this yarn came wrapped around a cardboard tube. It ended up being not very long at all, but I think I managed to find some cute ways to wear it. First, the pattern was a row of double crochet and four rows of Vs. Count and repeat. For the fringe, you can see the end there is a little bit fuller. I chained 3 into every DC of the last row.
I made these flowers for this scarf. I made the same pattern in four or five different types/colors of yarn, but this one really went well with the blue of the scarf. I worked the flower directions just for the first two pictures. (I stopped before she changed yarn and worked the back of the flower.)
I think my favorite sit-on-the-couch craft is crocheting, but I did go on a cross stitch kick last week. I made these two: I absolutely LOVE the way the house turned out. On the flowers, I miscounted (apparently, that's pretty easy to do when you cross stitch AND watch TV at the same time). I personally don't think it looks too bad, but EJ took one look and asked what went wrong with that top blue petal. I just showed him the house and told him to gush over what a good job I did with it.

Who am I, you ask?
In 2006 I had a stroke, and every day my husband encourages me to use my remaining brain cells to the best of my ability. I love to organize, make crafts, and go on adventures (safe ones). I hope that through my blog posts, you will be encouraged to accept and make the best of challenges God throws at your life. Categories
