Last year, EJ got all decked out in some sparkly lights: This year I draped him with garland.

At ladies' meeting the other night, every place was set with these "I am thankful for" papers. Everyone thought it would be part of the devotional, so no one filled in the little hearts, and then ladies meeting was over and everyone kinda pretended they "forgot" about the papers and just left them on the table. Another mom and I decided to take some home for our kids to fill out, and I was just going to take my one paper (because I only have one kid) but somehow I ended up with two. So I let EJ fill out both of them! This one he filled out for me.
I had seen these acorns on Pinterest and thought, since I was busy making another craft for this month's ladies' meeting, I needed something easy and quick. Having a pint-sized helper was nice, too. We laid out all our ingredients (EJ was trying not to smile): From right to left: bowl for trash, unwrapped kisses, wrapped kisses, nutter butter bites, mini chocolate chips, lined cookie sheet, white cookie icing.
I read an article the other day: 10 Things Japan Gets Awesomely Right. One of the things on the list was beer, and I wouldn't know anything about that, but the other 9 things I nodded my head in agreement. Then I read an article about things you will miss from the convenience store if you've lived in Japan any length of time. Again, most of those items, I clawed desperately at my computer screen, trying to get to them. Of course, it was futile. Like resisting the Borg. I just couldn't do it. But then my husband rode in on his white stallion and saved the day! It was actually a white Concorde Chrysler, but potato potahto. He told me about an Asian market across town, and we whisked ourselves there straightway. Behold, my happiness: Corn Puff Snack (better than its American equivalent, so says my hubby)
My heart experienced every emotion available to mankind when I heard the story behind my son's latest offering envelope. I was proud; I was humbled. I was upset and embarrassed. I was relieved and happy.

My Marine Corps veteran daddy :-)
I've seen other people's blog posts, where they list 150 stocking stuffer ideas. I see the title and think, "Oh good! I need good ideas!" Because, you know as well as I do that stockings are usually the hardest thing to buy for for Christmas, especially if you are buying for an adult. {Growing up, my parents didn't have stockings of their own because they didn't have them when they were growing up. My siblings and I did, and we still do. I mean, when do you stop having a stocking? The obvious answer would be "when you're a grown-up", but our first Christmas together, we didn't have any kids to buy toys for their stockings (and I would imagine most other people don't either). So, we had stockings. And then, the kid is too little to understand what a stocking is, and then the daddy takes the kid shopping and buys little presents for mommy's stocking so you can't really not do stockings after that. Okay, I feel justified being 28 and still having a stocking.}
So back to the point. I click on these other links, anticipating a flood of super ideas that I just won't know which ones to pick, there will be so many good ideas. And normally, I am sorely disappointed. Like the most recent list I found. #143: Kindle. Seriously?! Who gives Kindles in stockings?? If you are like me, you are about to give up clicking on stocking-stuffer-idea links. But I hope you will click on mine before you completely give up. Well, if you are reading this, you've clicked, so before you decide I'm just going to rant about bad stocking stuffer lists, here is my list, compiled from random ones floating around in cyberspace, with only the truly cheap and not-stupid ideas included. There are not very many good things about winter, in my opinion. It's cold, sickness abounds, it's cold, you have to be bundled up all the time, did I mention it's cold?! Can you tell I'm not a fan of winter?
But the season does have some perks. Christmas, for one. Christmas music, for another (or at least, being able to listen to it without half the world thinking you're crazy). Ice skating. Sledding and/or skiing if you live in the north or go on vacation. Hands down, though, this has to be the greatest winter perk of all: egg nog. Nov. 3, I am thankful for:

Who am I, you ask?
In 2006 I had a stroke, and every day my husband encourages me to use my remaining brain cells to the best of my ability. I love to organize, make crafts, and go on adventures (safe ones). I hope that through my blog posts, you will be encouraged to accept and make the best of challenges God throws at your life. Categories
