But then my husband rode in on his white stallion and saved the day! It was actually a white Concorde Chrysler, but potato potahto. He told me about an Asian market across town, and we whisked ourselves there straightway. Behold, my happiness:
I read an article the other day: 10 Things Japan Gets Awesomely Right. One of the things on the list was beer, and I wouldn't know anything about that, but the other 9 things I nodded my head in agreement. Then I read an article about things you will miss from the convenience store if you've lived in Japan any length of time. Again, most of those items, I clawed desperately at my computer screen, trying to get to them. Of course, it was futile. Like resisting the Borg. I just couldn't do it. But then my husband rode in on his white stallion and saved the day! It was actually a white Concorde Chrysler, but potato potahto. He told me about an Asian market across town, and we whisked ourselves there straightway. Behold, my happiness: Corn Puff Snack (better than its American equivalent, so says my hubby) Strawberry Milk Candy (such a smooth taste!) 6 different fruit flavors (they are so small and slippery in your mouth, if you're not careful, you'll swallow them whole. I did many times as a kid and so did EJ the first time he tried it!) Sugar Candy--no explanation needed :-) They make this with almonds, too, but that's not what's amazing about this. It's the CHOCOLATE!!!! Oh, the chocolate! Wow, that chocolate! Okay, okay, I'm done. But that chocolate! Okay, I'm really done now. This is Black Black Gum. It's extremely mentholated and loses its flavor in like, five minutes, but for those five minutes, it's like an American Fourth of July in your mouth. Now THIS blueberry gum is awesome. Not to mention the dispenser. This is me when I saw this gum: Smooth taste, VERY chewy, much too small. They also had a package with strawberry, grape, and apple, but my boys wanted tropical instead. And last but certainly not least, Ramune (pronounced rolled R-Rah moo neh). I love that the melon one proclaims it is a "Fun Marble Drink". So funny. You should totally go to an Asian market and pick up some of these things. They will revolutionize your life. Oh, I forgot to mention the openings. 99% of Japanese bags open with a little slit along the top. Americans open stuff from the flap on the back, but 9 times out of 10, when I do that, the contents of the bag go flying like acrobats. I much prefer the simple Japanese method. However, on the corn puff bag, it has instructions on how to open the bag using the flap! Can you tell I love Japanese stuff? :-)

Yum! I miss those mini fruit candies! And the blueberry gum! Simeon ananother friend often bring me hichew. The best flavor is pineapple, but ive only ever seen it sold in okinawa. But it is the best. Not a hugefan of the tropical flavors- i prefer apple and strawberry!

Awesome! I'll be sure to reference this when deciding on snacks for our event! I'm always scared to try things thinking I won't like them. Thanks so much!

Who am I, you ask?
In 2006 I had a stroke, and every day my husband encourages me to use my remaining brain cells to the best of my ability. I love to organize, make crafts, and go on adventures (safe ones). I hope that through my blog posts, you will be encouraged to accept and make the best of challenges God throws at your life. Categories
