Toward the end of the party, a college girl dressed as Elsa came and sang songs and had pictures made with the kids. EJ's friend also had an Elsa costume on, and while he refused to have his picture made with the grown up Elsa, he requested his picture made with the little Elsa. At least with her, he said, he has a CHANCE of marrying her when he grows up.
One of EJ's friends had a Frozen-themed birthday, complete with ice skating, capes, and even an appearance by a grown-up lady dressed as Elsa. He wanted to go as the future man who would marry Elsa, so I made him a cape with sequins and glitter glue in the shape of snowflakes. (While the mother in me wanted him to wear his helmet for protection, I was glad he incorporated it {in his mind, at least} as part of his future-man outfit.) He said first, he would struggle around the rink a couple times, then he would put on his cape and go flying across the ice, reminiscent of when Elsa went from her normal clothes to ice castle clothes. Once he had his cape on, he felt empowered enough to skate back and forth across the rink, rather than around it. But of course, with rough-and-tumble friends, no skating is complete without a few tumbles. This series was so funny to watch, so the next time they skated close together, I videoed it. Unfortunately, it didn't turn out quite like I hoped. They got too close, both fell on top of each other, then EJ's friend got up and EJ didn't. I ended up having to skate out there and rub his knee. He came home with quite a few bruises! But he had a blast and asked if his friend doesn't have a Frozen birthday party next year, if he can have one.

Who am I, you ask?
In 2006 I had a stroke, and every day my husband encourages me to use my remaining brain cells to the best of my ability. I love to organize, make crafts, and go on adventures (safe ones). I hope that through my blog posts, you will be encouraged to accept and make the best of challenges God throws at your life. Categories
