Sure enough, within minutes, the nurse asked me a question and I had no idea what to say. So I asked if she could talk to my husband. She said yes. She then asked him for the last four of my social, which I proudly spouted off without even thinking. Bill said, "That's my number." It took me a minute to remember mine.
-initially, my UAB (hospital system) neurologist referred me for this neuropsych evaluation (NE) (also part of UAB)
-that psychologist wasn't taking new patients, so she sent me to psychologist #2
-insurance will only cover the NE if the referral comes from my pcp
-we back tracked to get a referral from my pcp
Today we found out:
-the soonest appointment available is in October
-psychologist #2 will only accept new patients with a referral from a doctor within UAB (which technically we do have, but apparently it doesn't count because the referral written for insurance is from my pcp, who is not in the UAB system)
-psychologist #2 doesn't even do NEs!
So...I feel like I'm back at square one. I would seriously think we're doing something wrong here, but after talking to other people who spend weeks getting one appointment *scheduled*, I'm thinking this is normal. Which is terrible, frankly. It should not be this hard to get help.
Bill decided to pursue legal power of attorney since he gets roadblocked every time he tries to make a phone call on my behalf. We may end up going back to my pcp and asking if he has a psychologist who does NEs in his circle. We may try to get UAB to accept the referral from my neurologist.
Praises:
-my fatigue from yesterday is mostly gone!
-supper was provided tonight (y'all seriously don't know what an indescribable blessing it is to not have to cook!)
Prayer requests:
-power of attorney to work out without a problem
-wisdom as we try to figure out our next play
