What a sad word. I just learned it from a Wii game today. It sounds so pretty when it’s coming out of your mouth. Try it—evanescent. My brain conjures up dancing Dutch in their full skirts and wooden shoes, tapping out a rhythm that makes me want to blindly float up to the stars.
Evanescent—lasting for only a short time, then disappearing quickly and being forgotten. Evanescent. It sounds like effervescent. And while effervescent is a very nice sounding word, all I think of when I hear it are alka seltzer tablets foaming in a glass of water. Maybe it’s because I’m not an effervescent person. I like to be quiet and listen and watch other people be effervescent. But I don’t want to be evanescent, either. There should be a happy medium, something like ellemescent or ecolescent or ewedescent. Well, maybe not ewedescent. That sounds like iridescent, which again is a beautiful word and elicits images of rainbow tulips shooting forth rays of purple and green and blue. So back to our initial sad word. I wish I could think of an evanescent thing to prove that it’s not all bad, but alas, I cannot. I guess the Presidents who served between Harrison and Eisenhower are evanescent. Whenever I sing the President song--you know the one to the tune of 10 Little Indians--after Harrison is totally blank, but I can pick it back up at Eisenhower and finish to Obama. Maybe in 100 years, the president(s) that served between Bush and the one that will be elected in 4 or 8 years will be evanescent. I know that in 100 years, I will probably be evanescent, but so will all the effervescent people I know. I think only the iridescent people are remembered forever, like Clara Barton and Jesse James. So I guess that means that if I want to be remembered in 2121, I need to concentrate on being more tulip-like.

I was referring to the second Harrison, and did you look it up or do you still remember?? (and if you still remember, then way to show up your big sis!)

Who am I, you ask?
In 2006 I had a stroke, and every day my husband encourages me to use my remaining brain cells to the best of my ability. I love to organize, make crafts, and go on adventures (safe ones). I hope that through my blog posts, you will be encouraged to accept and make the best of challenges God throws at your life. Categories
