In book two, 3 months have passed and the government has decided that the power outage could last years. They give out $25 per person to last three months. People begin digging wells and planting gardens. The suspense in this book comes through 4 supposed orphans and their missing mother's supposed killer. They race to find the killer before one of the orphaned kids gets it!

True Light brings back some characters from book one, two suspected murderers who had fled when their dad was proven guilty. They try to frame their half-brother, who has started a relationship with the oldest daughter of the pivital family. Several people almost die, but now eight months into the outage, resourceful people have found workarounds to provide hospitals with life-saving machinery. This book had two chapters that focused on the younger daughter, and I suspect that the last book will be about her.

I was totally not expecting the ending of the series to end the way it did! As you might gather from the title, the pulsar burns out and the power comes back on, although not without some struggles. And like the rest of the series, there is a serial killer on the loose that the family has to catch. I thought this book would focus more on the younger daughter, and boy did it! She was integral in the killer thread, not so much the power coming back on thread, and she definitely provided the tipping point of growth for the family to embrace fully God's will for their lives, no matter what that was. The ending was very sweet, a balm for riled up emotions from the story.
I whole-heartedly recommend this series to anyone who likes a good mystery. I enjoyed it immensely.
