All December, the zoo decked itself out in holiday lights and posters and stayed open until 9 at night so patrons could enjoy the displays. They even blew cold (but fake) snow at us!
This year for Christmas, some friends gave us a zoo membership. It lasts all year long and includes lots of coupons. We get in for free, but the train is extra (except when we have coupons for it!) All December, the zoo decked itself out in holiday lights and posters and stayed open until 9 at night so patrons could enjoy the displays. They even blew cold (but fake) snow at us! When EJ realized he made footprints in the snow, he was off on a spy adventure for the next ten minutes. Here, he's trying to blend in with his surroundings so the people following us don't find him. We went straight to the line for the train ride (no coupons this month--we had to buy tickets). All the animals were in bed, so there was really nothing to do except the rides. It was SOO cold, but EJ found something to warm his hands with. We waited for almost an hour and a half, but at least we were in good spirits. Seriously, how can you be mad at the world when you see this face? The candy cane entrance to the train, which prompted a long discussion (hey, we had the time for it!) about the difference between LED lights and the other kind that I can't remember what they're called (guess who the discussion was between???): Finally! The train ride takes you back around where you can't go if you're not on the train. At one point, we passed a "Holidays Around the World" display. Kwanza, Diwali, Hanukkah, Christmas (which was NOT a manger scene, but rather a tree with presents under it--which could be an entire other blog post). There were seven or eight holidays included. The lights were cool, though. My camera was dying, so I didn't want to use up the batteries to change settings and keep snapping pics until I got one with no blur. We were told the hay ride was really fun (also no coupons, but I didn't realize how a short ride it was for how much the tickets cost), so we searched the entire zoo for it and finally found it in the parking lot. Who'd-a-thunk that?! It was quite crowded as we rode the last one of the night, but here's the hay in between EJ and me to prove it! The hay ride also took us back where I'd never been before, with lots of pretty lights and even someone dressed as a reindeer standing by the side of the road waving at us. All in all, we had fun. I'm glad we went, and it was better than I expected. I don't think we'll go again next year, though, because it was so incredibly cold, the train ride line was so long, and it was a smidgen more expensive than I felt comfortable paying. But next year we sure will enjoy visiting all the animals in the daytime--and when it's not barely above freezing!

Who am I, you ask?
In 2006 I had a stroke, and every day my husband encourages me to use my remaining brain cells to the best of my ability. I love to organize, make crafts, and go on adventures (safe ones). I hope that through my blog posts, you will be encouraged to accept and make the best of challenges God throws at your life. Categories
