I was supposed to take something, so I made some banana muffins thanks to some bananas that EJ's great granny gave us. :-)
Before we could go to our party, we had to decorate the mailbox! The lady in charge said, and I quote, "The kids decorate their mailboxes, but some of them just bring gift bags with their name on it!" So I'm thinking, mailbox, okay, we have one of those. An aunt gave this to him a while ago, and she wrote our address on it, but it was the wrong number, but I wanted to cover it up anyway. When EJ first heard me talking about decorating a mailbox for a valentine's party, he was SO excited and drew this heart right away. The party was at a park I had never been to. Warning flag number one. I printed off directions and a close up of the map. We turned off the interstate and it looked like we had to go down this road for 2 miles, then turn and it will be right there. Warning flag number two--things are never as easy as they seem. Two miles later, I turn around because I realized there was a different road I had to turn on to first. I drive past where the road is supposed to be, only there's nothing there. So I pull into a gas station, sit, breathe, think, breathe, stare at my map and try to convince EJ we are not lost and we will find the park. Sure enough, I get back on the road and annoy those behind me by driving about 7 miles an hour. That road was here somewhere, and I was NOT going to miss it again! Two miles down the correct road later, and sure enough, there it is. There's a really cool cemetery right next to the park. File that away for later... Back to the park party. I was supposed to take something, so I made some banana muffins thanks to some bananas that EJ's great granny gave us. :-) We had a really fun time. After lunch the kids put valentine's in each other's box. The first pic shows you where EJ's box was, and then it's where's waldo time. I promise he is in each picture, there are just so many people, good luck trying to find him! Shew! Finally made it through! So many people, so many boxes. We only took about 25 or so valentines. I totally forgot to take a picture of the valentines. We took playing cards, and cut out white cardstock to tape to the back. He wrote a little note on the cardstock and used some of my stamps to decorate around the note. They were really cute. Anyway, after the melee of valentines, the kids all went to play. Very first, he had to climb over and around the equipment, but then... Do you see that boy in the second picture? He has a nerf gun. EJ followed him to the group of boys that were play-fighting with guns. He had no qualms about talking to the biggest of them, asking if they had any extra guns that he could borrow. They didn't, so he just shot bullets out of his arm. At one point he ran up to me and said, "Mommy, can give me some power-ups?" So I put my hand on his head and said, "Dzhuzhuzhu" and he ran off all powered up. (And no, I am not going to repeat that!) Then we went home and delved into the loot. Wowee that's a lot! Enjoying his valentine cards, trying to figure out what is in this piece of candy. My favorite! But it wasn't mine, and I didn't steal it. Aren't you proud of me? I asked him what he wanted to do with all his cards. He said he wanted to put them in a scrapbook. YES!!! Success! My son wants to make a scrapbook! So I used my new calligraphy pens I got for Christmas and decorated a piece of paper. I kinda ran out of room there at the end, bottom left. I wanted to use all the sizes and all the colors. And I made sure to date it because I could totally see us doing this same thing next year and in ten years wondering what years which books were from. Not that in ten years it will really matter, but maybe in 50, EJ's grandkids can enjoy seeing what valentines looked like in 2013 and 2014. I made sure to denote 40 cards, 12 stickers, 1 pencil, 2 erasers, and 20 pieces of candy. We used my scrapbooking double-sided tape, and EJ oh so carefully put each card in, overlapping them just so. Then I hole-punched and tied green yarn to make the binding. Perfect end to a busy day.

Who am I, you ask?
In 2006 I had a stroke, and every day my husband encourages me to use my remaining brain cells to the best of my ability. I love to organize, make crafts, and go on adventures (safe ones). I hope that through my blog posts, you will be encouraged to accept and make the best of challenges God throws at your life. Categories
