You might be right if you call me a romantic. My husband is one, too. When we were dating in college, every year there was a vote on Valentine's day for who was getting engaged next, who would break up next, who should be dating but didn't realize they liked each other more than friends yet, and the one that we got the most votes for, which couple was the sappiest. It feels so funny writing that word, because I don't think I've actually heard it spoken since college. I wasn't expecting anything on the actual Valentine's Day because I knew we had plans for Saturday, but I woke up on Thursday to this pleasant surprise! You can see taking a picture came second to sampling the goods. And then he came home from work with these! Beautifully brilliant yellow roses with the now-requisite lilies. Those are fast becoming a thing. {eye-roll!} On Saturday afternoon, after dropping Einstein Junior off at the grandparents, we went thrift store shopping! I can.not.believe we found "Summer fun" at the thrift store! E.J. will need it for his literature class next year (next month?). We also found a bunch of other books. Swiss Family Robinson is one of E.J.'s favorite books, but we only have little kid versions. I will read this unabridged version first and then if it's okay for a 6-year-old, let him have at it. It should take him at least two days to read! :-) After shopping, we went home to change into fancy clothes. When we got to the restaurant, they had valet parking, but obviously we're just country bumpkins and didn't know how much to tip (originally an acronym meaning To Insure Promptness), so we parked in the next county at a dentist's office and walked back to the restaurant. When we got inside, the Maitre d' told us to wait at the bar. Thankfully there were two chairs we could wait in instead. After we were seated, I looked around and realized 90% of the patrons had bar-looking glasses and asked my lovely companion if maybe everyone gets told to wait at the bar for 10 minutes, whether their table is ready or not, just in hopes they spend more money at the restaurant. Hmm...conspiracy theory? These pictures are blurry because I did not use the flash. No way were we getting kicked out of this restaurant for flash photography! First they brought 3 different kinds of bread. I loved the sourdough and mini cornbread muffins. My husband ate the raisin bread. For the appetizer, we had a cheese plate, which we knew exactly how to eat because just last month I had gotten a living socials deal for an artisan cheese package-thingy. For our meal, my husband got rabbit (which was dry and tough--not at all like I expected rabbit to taste) and I got lamb in orange polenta, which must be such a fancy dish that Microsoft word wants me to change the word polenta to the word tadpole. I most certainly did not have tadpoles with my lamb, MSW! Man was that good. For dessert we split "fruit and sherbet", which was mildly misleading because there were four scoops of sherbet with about 3 slices of apple fanned on top. We got hot tea and cappuccino to go with the ice cream, so it wasn't all bad. These are my leftovers. I made sure to ask for the bone, too, for our dogs. I'm sure they will love fighting over it! And my absolutely favoritest present this week--a heating blanket! On Sunday I told my husband that when I borrowed his mom's little heating pad for my feet, it was the first time in a long time my feet were actually warm. He remembered and when we drove home separately after church the night before Valentine's Day and he had to stop at Walmart for "dog food", he got me this! Yay! I love you, Sweetheart!

Who am I, you ask?
In 2006 I had a stroke, and every day my husband encourages me to use my remaining brain cells to the best of my ability. I love to organize, make crafts, and go on adventures (safe ones). I hope that through my blog posts, you will be encouraged to accept and make the best of challenges God throws at your life. Categories
