January went well; the book of Proverbs fits nicely in one month. Then I decided to do Psalms. I knew it would take a couple of months to go through, but five! I feel like we've been stuck in Psalms for half a year! Which, technically, we have been almost. The month of June will finish this book, but it will take eleven days to get through the longest chapter.
At the beginning of the year, I had an awesome idea to make a devotional book for my son every month. Knowing he was only six, I knew I couldn't expect him to read 4 chapters and glean all this spiritual knowledge, so I decided to have him read 1 chapter a day and answer a couple questions about it. I know, you're wondering why is it going to take 11 days!? Come on, it's got 176 verses! I spent a lot of time thinking and praying about the best way to split it up, and reading two sections a day (this time around while he's 7) seemed like the best answer. Then I did a lot more thinking and praying about the best way to write the questions. Even with two sections at a time, there's not a whole lot of overlap with God's stuff (commandments, law, statutes, etc.). They tended to put only one or two in at a time. This is what I finally settled on: This is the bottom half of this page: I will add the numbers and the sentence at the bottom in my saved version. I didn't think about that until after I had them printed. Usually, I give the verse number where the answer will be found, but I didn't do that for this chapter. The rest of the chapters in this book are so short, it kinda makes up for spending eleven days on one chapter. Plus, I had to do multiple chapters in one day to finish in June. But I figured, with only 6 verses or so, three chapters wasn't asking too much. :-) So there's the rest of Psalms. I'm debating on what book to do next. One would think John would be an obvious choice, but EJ just finished going through the entire book of John verse by verse in second grade. I'm thinking maybe Luke. He loves Christmas and would enjoy reading the Christmas story in July.

I am so thankful for the time you are investing in EJ's spiritual growth! I pray for him every single day to grow up to love God with all his heart and serve Him faithfully, and this delving into God's Word as he grows up will certainly be used by God in his life.

Who am I, you ask?
In 2006 I had a stroke, and every day my husband encourages me to use my remaining brain cells to the best of my ability. I love to organize, make crafts, and go on adventures (safe ones). I hope that through my blog posts, you will be encouraged to accept and make the best of challenges God throws at your life. Categories
