Wednesday: I read 2 John, and verse five gives a definition of love--following God's commandments. It is easy to say "I love you"; I don't like to say it unless I know I actually mean it, but I know some people who say it to just about everyone they meet. Harder than saying I love you is showing it, whether you say it a lot or not. A lot of people talk about how having the right attitude is all that is important, but if I intend to do something (like read the Bible) and my attitude is submissive and humble, but I don't actually get around to doing that thing, have I really shown God love?
Thursday: Obviously, John didn't like to write. First John only has five chapters, and his next two books only have one each. Maybe he did like to write (the Gospel according to John has 21 chapters and Revelation has 22!) and when he wrote the three little ones, he was just having an "off day". 3 John verse 13 says he had more to say, but he didn't want to write it with ink. Makes me not feel so bad when I want to just call a friend up instead of writing a message or a letter.
Friday: I wonder if Jude kept a book of cool sayings. Verse six: everlasting chains; verse eight: filthy dreamers; verses 12 and 13, particularly verse 13's wandering stars; verse 16: swelling words. Interesting to note is the negative connotation of all these phrases. As fun as it is to say clouds they are without water, carried about of winds and raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame, according to verse 11's woe, I wouldn't want to be one of those clouds or waves.
Saturday: Today I started, and hopefully for the next 21 days will continue, to read the book of Revelation. I think this is my son's favorite book in the Bible. Sometimes instead of taking notes during church, he will copy verses from Revelation onto scrap paper. At home, when he is bored, he will copy verses from Revelation into his notebook. Here are some things that stood out to me from chapter one:
- Those who read the Bible, or Revelation in particular, I'm not sure, are blessed.
- Jesus is the faithful witness.
- Verse 8 contains 9 descriptions of God.
Have you read something amazing this week? Has God reminded you of a particular trait He alone possesses? I'm excited to see how much more I learn and retain by writing down and sharing with you what I learn and am reminded of.
