This is what the ends looked like before I remembered about the extra circles I had:
Before I started the curtain project, I was a little bored and ready to crochet something. After browsing Pinterest, ideas flowed through my brain, and I gathered my smaller balls of yarn and started comparing the colors to see which ones went together. I picked out two pinks and two blues. I still wasn't sure what the final product was going to be yet. I thought about making little squares and joining them together, kind of like yo-yos. So I got some baby blue yarn and started making something up: I tried chain stitching the center circle, but it made it too bunchy, so I just wrapped the yarn around my finger (1) and crocheted around it (2, 3). A total of ten double-crochet sticks (3, 4). Chain 7 and attach 1/4 of the way around (5) and fasten off (6). Not exactly square, although if you turn it diagonal, you could make the corners of the square be in the middle of the chain 7. But that's a little complicated. So I made as many of these creations as I had dark blue, pink, and maroon yarn to make. Then since my baby blue yarn ball was much bigger, I had to figure out what I was making before deciding how many more circles to make. I had 24 dark blue, 15 pink, and 12 maroon circles. Not nearly enough to make a blanket; too many to make a purse or bag. I made 24 baby blue circles, then took them all up to my bed to see what kind of design I could come up with if I joined the circles to make a scarf. The circles are each about 3", so I had enough to make three rows. One row I laid out the blues, every other color. The other two rows I laid out dark blue, pink, light blue, maroon, the whole way. I needed two more light blues, and I had three pinks and two dark blues left over. I made two more light blues and decided to deal with the extras later. Then I got a needle and sewed all the circles together. Here is where I stopped for a while to make the curtains. When I came back to this project, I was no closer to figuring out how to join the three rows together. I knew I wanted the two rows with pink on the bottom and the blues row sitting on top in the middle. After much rearranging, I came upon this plan: I crocheted the two bottom rows together, and whenever I got to the center of a circle from the top row, I just kind of looped my yarn between two double crochet sticks and pulled the center up. Again, kinda hard to explain. I basically just made it up as I went, and this was the simplest thing I could come up with. This is what the ends looked like before I remembered about the extra circles I had: I decided to attach one dark blue one between the two dark blue ones on the end, and I put a pink one next to the light blue: I should have attached the pink one on the end when I first sewed the top row together, but it worked this way also. Just made it a little difficult and probably wasted a little bit of yarn. I had one pink one left, so I put it in the very center: And here's what the back looks like: This is what it looks like, all finished. It's the perfect length to wrap around your neck. It's also very warm. I was thinking about putting buttons or something in the center of the top circles, but I don't have enough of the same color/type of button for all of them. What do you think? Buttons, something else, or nothing at all?
