Proverbs Devotional

One of my resolutions is to write a devotional book for elementary kids every month. I wrote Proverbs last month (December) so that my son could start the year doing a chapter a day. I hole-punched the papers and stuck them in a binder.

By the fourth day, I realized we needed some kind of bookmark.
I tied a length of yarn to the top ring behind all the paper.

Then I brought it up and laid it on the page we're on.

It has a tail!

At first, I really had to convince him that he needed to do this. He claims he doesn't like writing, so to do a whole page of writing, when last month he was just reading a chapter...We had a little conversation about how mommy can't let anyone else do the devotional until it's been proofread, and since I wrote it, I need him to proofread it for me. (So far, he's caught several mistakes.) When he realized that he would be helping me help other kids like him, I haven't heard one complaint. I know it's important for him to not just read but write and think about the Bible, but I don't want him to feel like he's being made to do it. I know his heart will be more tender if he goes into it willingly. If you're wondering why I didn't just "make him do it"...and the genius behind the idea to tell him he's my proofreader lies with my husband. :-)

P.S. I published this as a devotional book which you can buy here.

I love this! Thank you so much for teaching my grandson that making Bible reading part of his everyday life is so important!! I am sure he is a good little proof-reader!!

I am still completely in love with this idea! When are you going to make them available?

    Who am I, you ask?

In 2006 I had a stroke, and every day my husband encourages me to use my remaining brain cells to the best of my ability. I love to organize, make crafts, and go on adventures (safe ones). I hope that through my blog posts, you will be encouraged to accept and make the best of challenges God throws at your life.
