I've been wanting to make one of these for forever, and when my sister asked me if I would make one for her daughter, I jumped at the chance. I'd never made a quiet book before, so I really learned a lot here. I knew to sew a quiet book, layers were very important. I also knew if I sewed onto the top of a felt piece, I needed a back to sew onto it so the threads wouldn't show. I cut everything out, then I realized that I couldn't sew a hem around a single piece of felt. I went back through and cut out a second piece to everything I hadn't already. By this time, I had no yellow felt left, so I used orange for the other side of the ice cream and fall leaves. Here are all the individual pages. The button is the size of a quarter. Click on any picture to see it full sized. I made this page up. My niece (nickname: RyRo) likes Hello Kitty, and I had this ribbon and lots of stickers, so I put the stickers on regular paper with a little of the ribbon in between, then sewed the other end of the ribbon onto the page. I sewed little squares of the ribbon and hot glued other stickers around the page. Then I sewed felt strips RyRo can weave the ribbon under. I sewed the zipper face down, then cut a hole to expose the zipper (one of my friends told me about this method--SO easy! too bad regular fabric would fray). I cheated and hot glued all 14 little ladybug buttons. :-) I hand-stitched "Lookin' Pretty" above the purse. The phone and glasses are hot glued. There is a comb, brush, mirror, and eye makeup. I'm not very happy with the hook and eye. I think I sewed them on backward. I hope when I sew this page onto the colorful felt that will be the actual page, it will work better. If not, then I might have to take the page off and sew snaps or something...Let's hope the hook works! I hot glued stickers. I thought about making a bowl to put next to the cone, but then I saw these cute stickers and decided 45 seconds of hot glue was a lot easier than 15 minutes of cutting and sewing. Cooking breakfast layout. I used fabric markers to draw the cupboards, and I clearly didn't measure, because I can see that they are not even! The temperature dial (the white part) rotates around a heart-shaped button to point at O, L, or H. I sewed the plate down with all 7 colors of the rainbow. Seasons layout. Some of the ideas on Pinterest had the grass as the pocket, but I just had too much stuff to fit in that tiny little strip! I like my pockets, though. The flowers on the spring pocket, and all the button leaves are hot glued. I hand sewed the buttons on the winter pocket because they had loops on the back. I freehand drew the tree, and hand sewed the flaps down on the pockets. All the Pinterest people also had no winter, but RyRo lives in the north. Actually, I think even for people who would never see snow, there should still be SOMEthing for winter! Mr. Potato Head layout with a suitcase for all the parts. I sewed all the way up one side and part way up the other. It works better than snaps. This is actually the first page I made, and halfway around the first hand, I smashed my finger in my sewing machine. So it sat in my craft room for six months (no kidding, I was going to have this made for Christmas, and it's June now!). But then my mom lit a fire under me and I started back on it. And now it's mostly done! To see the covers and binding, click here: Part two.

Who am I, you ask?
In 2006 I had a stroke, and every day my husband encourages me to use my remaining brain cells to the best of my ability. I love to organize, make crafts, and go on adventures (safe ones). I hope that through my blog posts, you will be encouraged to accept and make the best of challenges God throws at your life. Categories
