It wasn't big enough to sew inside out, so I ironed down a hem.
Since a button was out of the question, I got some iron-on fusible velcro. Just iron it for 90 seconds, and Voila!

I have a coffee cup, with its own little plastic "cozy", so I thought I didn't need to make one of those cute ones you see on Pinterest all the time with the soft blue fabric and the big brown button that screams "Martha Stewart". But then one day I wanted coffee and my mug was dirty. So I used a mason jar. And realized that I do need to make a cozy. The only problem is that we have different sizes of mason jars, so if I measured and put on a button for one mason jar, what's to say that that particular jar will be clean the next time my coffee mug is dirty? So I brainstormed and came up with the adjustable coffee cozy. First I perused my fabric and decided to get a jump on looking festive. Then I sewed it inside out. And turned it right side out. I knew the lights would be too skinny, so I found a complimentary piece that was significantly larger. I sewed it inside out. And turned it right side out. I found another fabric that matched that was a size in between the lights and the green. It wasn't big enough to sew inside out, so I ironed down a hem. I pinned it to the green. I sewed it. (I figured I took the picture, might as well show you!) Eh, here's a close up. You can see I didn't exactly sew it evenly the entire way around. Then I sewed the lights on. Again, I didn't sew it evenly, and the green thread from the back kinda came through to the front; you can see it in the close up picture of the yellow. My friend said my tension was wrong. Guess I better practice with different tensions before I make any of these for anyone else. And next time I'm going to sew the top layer to the middle layer first, because it was really thick to sew through five layers of fabric. It might also help keep the pieces straight. Since a button was out of the question, I got some iron-on fusible velcro. Just iron it for 90 seconds, and Voila! An adjustable Christmas cozy!

Good idea! I have patience for 1000 piece puzzles but not for my sewing machine. =)

I just love your "I think I'll just design and make something" attitude!!

Who am I, you ask?
In 2006 I had a stroke, and every day my husband encourages me to use my remaining brain cells to the best of my ability. I love to organize, make crafts, and go on adventures (safe ones). I hope that through my blog posts, you will be encouraged to accept and make the best of challenges God throws at your life. Categories
