This is the first two rows. Once I got the hang of it (and figured out the beginning length I needed), I went outside so EJ could play in the driveway. Read more about it here.
The first thing I did was look up a video. I finally found knittinghelp.com. This lady does a bad job of explaining things, but as you can see, the camera shows perfectly how to knit. Turns out there are two ways to knit. The lady showed in her video how to knit "English style." She started at the very beginning and went all the way through. Then she announced, "This is not the way I knit because although it is a little easier, it takes so long. Here is how I knit." Then she proceeded to explain--not demonstrate--how she knits the "Continental style." So guess which way I knit? :-) This is the first two rows. Once I got the hang of it (and figured out the beginning length I needed), I went outside so EJ could play in the driveway. Read more about it here. Then I just knitted up a storm! I like the way the sun hits my needles. I've always wanted to take one of these blurry-in focus-blurry pictures. When I finished, I tied tassel lengths on each end. The pattern said to use lengths of 12 pom poms, but I didn't have enough yarn, so my tassels ended up being 3 or 4 pom poms instead of 6. The ends frayed super easily, so I lit a candle and melted the tips of each strand. I knitted another pom pom scarf after this one, and I had enough yarn to do 12 pom pom strands (folded in half so each strand from the scarf was 6 long). Then I made another pom pom scarf, but I didn't have any yarn left over, so it's just a scarf with no tassel. I made these scarves (along with several others) to donate to Rape Response. An organization called Threads of Compassion started this. I'm trying to start a Birmingham chapter of it, and when I get it up and running, I'll post a link. Until then, if you want to make scarves to donate to Rape Response, the yarn needs to be really soft so the lady can rub it on her cheek. The scarves need to be 5 inches wide and 72 inches long. When we get a bunch of scarves made, we will put them each in a little bag along with a note saying they are not alone and that Jesus loves them, or something like that. If you have scarves to donate, feel free to contact me via the contact us form to arrange pick up or mailing. :-)

Who am I, you ask?
In 2006 I had a stroke, and every day my husband encourages me to use my remaining brain cells to the best of my ability. I love to organize, make crafts, and go on adventures (safe ones). I hope that through my blog posts, you will be encouraged to accept and make the best of challenges God throws at your life. Categories
