All in all, it was a great day. The trees sheltered us from the sun, and the trails let through a nice breeze. EJ's bloody nose wasn't worse that what it was, and I only twisted my ankle. God watched out for me and my family on my birthday.
My birthday this year fell on a holiday--so most places were closed. But that was just as well, because it forced us to think of something fun to do that didn't require any money! My husband told me about a mountain he climbed a lot growing up, and since it was literally about 10 minutes from our house, we headed on over. It's called "Ruffner Mountain", but we didn't hike very high. And really, it's not very tall. So I called it "Ruffner Hill". But we had fun, which was the important thing. We saw these butterflies (there were two more!) before we even hit the trail. Getting ready to hit the trail... The trail we're going to hit... Isn't that a fun-looking trail?! (you can say no, if you want) A random rock outcropping. At the end of the trail was this old rock quarry. From far away: and zoomed in: EJ tripped at the quarry and skinned his elbow a little. Then just as we were leaving the area to go back (a mile and a half) to our car, his nose started to bleed! Thankfully, it wasn't a big one, and I was able to use some of his non-flavored water to wash all the blood off his face. We took a detour trail and I twisted my ankle. I really hadn't been watching where I was going, and there was this huge rut. I'm just glad I didn't sprain it! We were still about .8 miles from the car. That would have been a long hike if I had been in horrible pain.

Who am I, you ask?
In 2006 I had a stroke, and every day my husband encourages me to use my remaining brain cells to the best of my ability. I love to organize, make crafts, and go on adventures (safe ones). I hope that through my blog posts, you will be encouraged to accept and make the best of challenges God throws at your life. Categories
