I got a little bowl to put the sponges on. I soak them and wring them out, then rest them here until I need them. That way they aren't soaked when I put them in the dryer. (My cart is not dirty--it is stained with rust. It was in the house when we moved in and is quite functional, so I don't complain.)
I have been wanting to try making my own laundry soap for a while now. I looked on pinterest and a million people have a million recipes. I felt a little overwhelmed, but then last month I ran out of fabric softener so I made a small batch of my own. I used what I had on hand, and the recipe itself turned out fine, but I learned some things to do differently next time. Well, this is next time. I buckled down and picked a simple ratio recipe, and I stuck to it! For the softener (I made more because I just had a little bit left and the mistakes I made previously were making it hard to use up the last bit), "v" is vinegar, "c" is hair conditioner, and "w" is water. The last recipe I made was a little too vinegar-y, so I found a different recipe that had a weaker vinegar ratio. I just added each ingredient, put the lid on, and shook for a few minutes. I didn't have a container that would hold 9 cups, so I used an empty detergent container (after rinsing out well). I then filled an empty Zeal container, and I still have extra in the detergent bottle. This container has a wider mouth for the sponges (I decided to stick with sponges, for now anyway), and it's completely plastic, so the lid and rim won't rust like the jar did. I bought strawberries and cream conditioner to use. I looked up all natural ingredients recipes, but I really couldn't find something I liked. I figured I'd stick with "cheaper" for now, rather than an "environmentally friendly" recipe I don't like. I got a little bowl to put the sponges on. I soak them and wring them out, then rest them here until I need them. That way they aren't soaked when I put them in the dryer. (My cart is not dirty--it is stained with rust. It was in the house when we moved in and is quite functional, so I don't complain.) When the sponge is used and needs more liquid, I put it on the lid, so I can keep track of which ones are ready for more liquid. I thought about decorating the tub, but it needs to be waterproof, and I don't have any ideas. Anyone? My clothes smell wonderful, aren't static-y, and don't have a vinegar smell. I love it! Stay tuned for "Homemade Laundry Detergent", coming soon to a blog near you! :-)

This certainly sounds easy enough!! and without a lot of chemicals! Like your sponge process--keeps everything ready for when it's needed!

Who am I, you ask?
In 2006 I had a stroke, and every day my husband encourages me to use my remaining brain cells to the best of my ability. I love to organize, make crafts, and go on adventures (safe ones). I hope that through my blog posts, you will be encouraged to accept and make the best of challenges God throws at your life. Categories
