(And after skating, we went to Michael's to get some yarn--I had a coupon!--and to 2nd and Charles where we got some free books. Definitely a good day!)
We have been homeschooling now for two years, if you don't count preschool. In that time, we have taken many field trips: to the zoo, the McWane Science Center, the Museum of Flight. But today was the first time we have taken a "field trip" with our cover school. Can you guess what we did? Several days ago, I noticed my cover school put a notification on facebook for an Ice Staking party. Now that my car is fixed, I thought that would a super fun thing to do. Plus I had a living socials deal for two. If you notice, he has on MY red gloves. Yesterday, we went shopping and bought him some waterproof gloves specifically for this outing, and after we got our skates on, I realized we left them in the car. But my gloves were in the bag I brought inside (with my skates and our water bottle). So I loaned them out, but after about 6 falls, I realized I needed to go out and get his waterproof ones. We found another mom sitting on the bleachers with her baby to make sure no one stole away my little skater while I went outside. I also brought in his bike helmet and he wore it the rest of the time. He had fallen once on his face and his cheek is bruised, so I thought a helmet might be in order. I think if it did anything, the helmet just gave him confidence. After that, he was skating so much better, and by the time we left, he was skating without holding on to the side! I am so proud of him! There were about 30 or so other kids there and about 20 adults. Most of the other kids had been skating before, and about halfway through organized an impromptu game of tag. I had to do some fast talking to convince MY little skater that he needed to spend this trip learning how to skate, and maybe next time we all come skating, he can play with the other kids. They were whizzing all over the place, and I could just see him totter out there and tumble as soon as someone slammed him with being "it". Even though we stayed by the side the whole time, I think both of us had a wonderful time. Sorry for the poor quality, I don't know why it's like that. The shaking I can explain--I was skating backward! (And after skating, we went to Michael's to get some yarn--I had a coupon!--and to 2nd and Charles where we got some free books. Definitely a good day!)

Who am I, you ask?
In 2006 I had a stroke, and every day my husband encourages me to use my remaining brain cells to the best of my ability. I love to organize, make crafts, and go on adventures (safe ones). I hope that through my blog posts, you will be encouraged to accept and make the best of challenges God throws at your life. Categories
