Devotional Booklets

For the month of December, instead of doing a short paragraph about what I got out of my reading, I am going to make a devotional booklet. At the end of the month, I will print out the 31 pages, one page for each chapter in Proverbs. Last month my husband and I were looking for a kids' devotional book to buy for our 6 year old. Everything we found was either well above his mental maturity, or open-ended questions at the end of a short story that was supposed to make the kid think. I am all for a story about forgiveness and questions that prompt "Who do you need to forgive today?", but I wanted something that he could write in, that didn't require too much on purpose soul-searching. I think as he learns the truths in the Bible, his heart will be pricked where it needs to be. When we couldn't find a book I liked, my husband told me I should write my own. <Gulp.> Um, write my own? Well, okay. I'll try. One month. (That's what my pastor said when he was asked to write a devotional book for church people. Five years later, they are printing off several hundred copies every month.)

The point is to read the entire chapter first, and then go back and answer the questions. Otherwise, the only verses you (read: my son) will read are the ones with the questions. This is written, I hope, on a very smart 6 year old level. We'll find out how I did in January when he does his booklet.

Here's a preview of Proverbs. You can buy the entire chapter devotional here.

    Who am I, you ask?

In 2006 I had a stroke, and every day my husband encourages me to use my remaining brain cells to the best of my ability. I love to organize, make crafts, and go on adventures (safe ones). I hope that through my blog posts, you will be encouraged to accept and make the best of challenges God throws at your life.
