Round 1: chain 4 and sc into first chain to make a loop.
I was on pinterest the other day, looking for leaf patterns, when I stumbled across someone's photo of crocheted peacock feathers. They were so beautiful, but alas, there was no pattern. So I peered close to my screen and made up a pattern to kinda sorta match what I saw. Her picture looks like she used 100% cotton, which gives a completely different feel than the cheapo synthetic stuff I have. But whatever. I am quickly growing to like mine. (Round 3 and round 5 have the same colors; the rest are different.) Click on any photo to see it enlarged. Round 1: chain 4 and sc into first chain to make a loop. Chain 3 and 15 dc around the loop. Change colors and sc into third chain to close the round. Round 2: chain 2 and sl st into the next 11 dc around (eleven ch2 spaces). Chain 2. Looks like this: Reach your hook down through the original loop and draw up the yarn. Slip stitch. Slip stitch into next dc. Repeat so you have 3 of those. Continue ch2 and sl st until you reach the beginning. Chain 2, change colors, and sl st into first space to close the round. Round 3: Chain 2 and slip stitch in each ch2 space all the way around. Change colors before the last sl st. Round 4: chain 2 and sl st in each ch2 space (2 ch2 spaces). Chain 2 and hdc into next ch2 space. Chain 2 and dc into next three ch2 spaces. Then ch2 and hdc into next space. Chain 2 and sl st around; change colors before last sl st. Round 5: chain 1. SC into each link of ch2 around (3 sc). Slip stitch into next link. Chain 3. Slip stitch into same link (this step is called a picot). SC into next ch2 link. Repeat until you have 7 picots. (On the first one I made, I had 9 picots. Do what makes you happy.) Single crochet into each ch2 link (10 sc). Chain 3. SC into second chain. SC into next chain. SC into same chain link from previous round. Single crochet around to where round started. Slip stitch to finish the feather! I was searching for things I could make as decoration for my Hand Snuggle, but this turned out way too huge. I have a growing collection of items that are too big for that, so maybe one day I'll turn them all into a blanket or something. If you see a step I missed or did wrong, please tell me! Also, feel free to copy my pattern and share your finished feathers with me. :-)

Who am I, you ask?
In 2006 I had a stroke, and every day my husband encourages me to use my remaining brain cells to the best of my ability. I love to organize, make crafts, and go on adventures (safe ones). I hope that through my blog posts, you will be encouraged to accept and make the best of challenges God throws at your life. Categories
